El Salvador: 150 MW tender for wind and solar power announced

On invitation of the Salvadorian Industry Association (ASI), Kaltenbach Energy Consulting participated at the second regional energy conference (20-22.08.2015) and held a presentation on solar energy and storage systems.

Additionally, Kaltenbach Energy Consulting attended the presentation of a new grid study which determined the capacity of the Salvadorian energy system to integrate wind and solar power. Based on the results of the study, the National Energy Council (CNE) announced a 150 MW tender for wind and solar energy. Solar energy will have a share of 110 MW, wind power a share of 40 MW.

The tender is the next step to diversify the Salvadorian energy supply after last year´s 100 MW tender (60 MW solar power, 40 MW wind power).
Due to the price level of the proposed projects the wind power projects were not considered and the 40 MW were awarded to further solar projects. The largest project is a 60 MW solar plant being developed by the French investor Neoen.
